Tun Dr Mahathir Has Locus Standi To Make Any Statement On Umno, Says Rais
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Jelebu Umno division chief Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim Monday lashed out at those who criticise former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for making statements regarding Umno.

"There are many who are blasting Tun Dr Mahathir for making statements about Umno. This should not be an issue," said Rais, who is Foreign Minister.

"He has the locus standi (standing) to make any statement on Umno. He led the party for 23 years.

"If they want to say something to him, look at him straight in the eye and tell him. Dr Mahathir has every right to say what he wants about Umno," he told reporters when met at the Foreign Ministry's friends of Malaysia cultural exchange programme here.

Very well said, Datuk Seri..

On another different issue, I recommend all to read Tun's latest blog entry, 'The Financial Turmoil and Malaysia', which I think is one of Tun's best article/blog post to date. I've read about the current financial crisis in the Time magazine, in the mainstream papers, comments by politicians and others, but none of the explanations given are as simple as this. I feel that Tun's articles like this should be published in local magazines or other mainstream newspapers.

Let's just hope our government, or to be specific our Finance Minister and future PM, Dato Seri Najib Razak could weather the economic storm this time 'round, like how Tun Dr Mahathir single handedly pulled Malaysia out of the economic crisis 10 years ago.

In time of crisis like this, it is still sad to see that more attention is given to political infightings, debating over basic fundamental issues like race and religion and even to the extent of questioning the basic principles of our Constitution! - all in the name of greater democracy and freedom - rather than discussing or at least start worrying about the global financial crisis that is going to hit our shores fairly soon.

On a personal level, the current goal is to cut down on my credit card expenses! I know I've been saying this to myself for months, but what to do, tiba-tiba pulak brek kereta rosak! Damnit, so there goes my RM500! Well, at least this note could serve as a self reminder..
